MECHANICAL FACILITIES ENGINEER

 

SALARY: £40,000-£45,000 per annum (based on skills and experience).

LOCATION: Ely, Cambridgeshire (CB6)

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 6am and 5pm.

 

First Light Lamps is a global leader in the supply of Xenon and Krypton lamps for the photonics industry. Based just outside of Ely on the Lancaster Way Business Park.

Working as part of the Engineering Team, you will play a key role supporting production. The role will be to ensure that production equipment is maintained and that any breakdowns are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner. You will also be required to support in the general day to day maintenance of the of the buildings and their infrastructure that makes up First Light Lamps Ltd.

 

JOB OVERVIEW

As Mechanical Facilities Engineer, you would be responsible for machinery maintenance and breakdowns, support with all facilities maintenance and fabrication.

You will be working closely with the other engineers, and will help them develop their skills with Vacuum, Pneumatics, High voltage, PLC, furnaces, glass working lathes and many other unique pieces of equipment.

It is essential that you are self-motivated, practical and have an adaptable approach to your workload with a hands-on approach.

Experience with vacuum, pneumatics, electronics, high voltage, flammable gases, workshop equipment and woodwork skills would be beneficial however training can be provided for the right candidate.

This is a great opportunity for someone to bring their own knowledge and experience to an established and supportive team.

This role is a full-time permanent opportunity working 37.5 hour per week Monday-Friday between 6am and 6pm. Due to the nature of this role, some work is required outside of normal hours (quarterly? 2-10pm? Period of 2 weeks at a time?)

 

MAIN PURPOSE

  • Supporting the Engineering department and Production with urgent and planned machinery maintenance. 
  • Carrying out facilities maintenance across the business. 
  • Working closely with Engineers, supporting the development of their skills with Vacuum, Pneumatics, High voltage, PLC, furnaces, glass working lathes and many other unique pieces of equipment.  

 

KEY TASKS

Duties may include and are not limited to:  

Machinery maintenance 

  • Repairing machine breakdowns 
  • Planned maintenance – oil changes, air filter cleaning etc.  
  • Modifications to machinery.  

Facilities maintenance  

  • Basic plumbing and electrics.  
  • Painting and decorating.  
  • Cable and pipe routing.  
  • Furniture repairs and assembly.  

Fabrication  

  • Sheet metal and plastics.  
  • Extruded frame assembly

 

KEY RESULTS/OBJECTIVES 

  • Supporting the Engineering and Production Manager where required. 
  • Highlight any issues in a timely manner so corrective and preventive action can be taken. 

 

RESPONSIBLE FOR  

  • Staff training and updating of digital records.  
  • Equipment, correct usage, servicing and communicating breakdowns.
