How do industrial flash lamps work?
The flash lamp provides the necessary energy to “pump” or excite the laser medium in an industrial solid state laser – often Nd:YAG
When the laser medium is pumped by the flash lamp, the atoms or molecules in the medium absorb the energy and transition to higher energy states. As they return to their lower energy states, they release photons of specific wavelengths.
The released photons bounce back and forth between reflective surfaces within the laser cavity, undergoing amplification through stimulated emission. This amplification results in a powerful, coherent laser beam which is ideal for use in many industrial processes.
