Ian’s tour covered three significant countries—South Korea, Japan, and China.
South Korea
Ian began his journey in South Korea, accompanied by Hyowon (Mik) Park from MPM. As one of the world’s leading producers of medical and aesthetic laser and IPL systems, South Korea plays a pivotal role in the global market. Ian and Mik spent a productive week meeting with an average of four customers daily, focusing on understanding their unique needs for lamps while building strong, long-term relationships. First Light places great importance on forging close connections with clients, and Ian’s visit was an exciting opportunity to reinforce these. He’s looking forward to returning to South Korea soon to continue fostering these relationships.
Japan: Reconnecting Post-COVID
After South Korea, Ian headed to Japan—a country First Light hadn’t visited since before the COVID-19 pandemic. This visit allowed him to reconnect with long-time partners like Yoichi Kadota, who has been instrumental in supporting our operations in Japan, particularly in the aesthetic and industrial markets. Together, they met with several original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) involved in the production of IPL, medical, and industrial laser systems, as well as potential resellers interested in distributing our products in Japan.
The trip wasn’t without its challenges, as a typhoon disrupted their travels to Kyoto. Heavy rainfall led to train cancellations, resulting in an unexpected overnight stay. However, thanks to Yoichi’s quick thinking and resourcefulness, Ian was able to navigate an alternative route and make his way back to Tokyo in time to catch his flight to the next destination.
China: CIBE Exhibition Success
The final leg of Ian’s tour took him to China, where he attended the Chinese Internal Beauty Exhibition (CIBE) in Guangzhou with our partner CaiWei Electron. The CIBE is a premier event for the beauty market in China, attracting producers of IPL, aesthetic, and medical lasers. While domestic manufacturers of xenon lamps exist in China, many customers still prefer high-quality Western-made products, including those from First Light. The show was a tremendous success, providing numerous leads and opportunities for future collaboration.
What’s Next for First Light Lamps?
Reflecting on the tour, we see it as a massive success—typhoon detours and all! These international visits underscore our commitment to building and nurturing relationships worldwide. Looking ahead, we have exciting plans to visit Germany, Italy, France, China, the USA, and more. Various members of our team will be traveling to these destinations in the coming months.
